These three circumstances are very important but enormously relative: it depends on the subjective perception of the individual as to whether they suffer or enjoy. It instead deals with that the person doesn’t perceive that work “is draining the life from them” because of the inadequate conditions. If it is like that, their physical and psychological health will be negatively affected.

4. Motivation and Meaning

Ultimately, we can’t talk about the most influential conditions on psychological health in the workplace without mentioning motivation.

We have just explained that the salary received, time dedicated or the difficulties of the task are all relevant yet very relative facets. This is also related with motivation, that is, the desire to carry out their work and the associated connection which is created in relation to their tasks and the company they work for.

When motivation is high, one’s mood will be much more positive and so earning less than one might be able to, working long hours or going above and beyond what is expected would be well compensated.

The question is when does motivation appear? It depends on a lot of things, but the main trigger is when people feel that they are working on a relatively interesting project, which has meaning, that it progresses thanks to their personal contribution, and that they do it in a way which they are able to notice, not just imagine.
