How can online therapy help me overcome my eating disorder?

Online therapy can help you improve your eating habits, your relationship with food and your self-esteem.  Each therapy session is specific to the person receiving it because each person is unique and has specific needs.

What types of eating disorders exist?

The most common eating disorders are anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder.

Anorexia is characterized by an intense fear of gaining weight, controlled through severe restrictions on food intake and intense physical exercise

Bulimia comes from having a general lack of control combined with an obsession with one’s own weight. Feelings of anxiety usually lead to overeating, followed by a sense of guilt. This leads to what is called purgative behaviours (use of laxatives, vomiting or fasting) to recover the feeling of control.

Binge eating disorder occurs when a person goes through periods of eating large amounts of food yet is not worried about losing weight. However, a great discomfort stems from the lack of control that appears in these overeating episodes.

What are the most common symptoms of eating disorders?

Feeling dissatisfied with one’s own body; obsessive weight control; unhealthy eating habits; fear of gaining weight; mood changes; increased irritability; and social isolation are some of the most frequent symptoms of eating disorders.
